I read scary reviews about print servers and was very reluctant to buy one, however, I eventually broke down and bought the Netgear WGPS606, 54Mbps. I was shocked that it was a piece of cake to install. The wizard spoon feeds you the installation steps.

1) You make sure that the printer you want to share has a driver installed on the computer any computer can be used to configure your computer.
2) You disconnect your computer from your router if applicable and connect the print server via network cable provided
 3) the wizard configures the printer to the Print server. I ran into problems at this stage, however, the wizard offered three possible troubleshooting scenarios one was related to the firewall. Surely enough, once I disabled my firewall, the wizard was able to continue with configuring the print server
4) the wizard then automatically assigned an IP and tested a print page. It worked great! Then I moved the print server to a corner in our living room. Next I ran the wizard on each laptop to configure the connection to the print server ... it took less than 5 minutes per machine before it started printing. Again, the only problem was related to my software firewalls (Zonealarm and Norton) Once I disable both and everything worked. Once done, I re-enabled my firewalls and everything still worked. Great product.

The hp 2101nw print server Wireless G  is the one to get if you already have a wireless network and an HP printer. It comes with everything you need to set up the server (cable, directions, driver software CD) . The "HP Wireless printing Upgrade kit" is really for those you do not have a wireless network and only one computer. The Upgrade Kit requires the computer on which it is installed to be on to use the printer on any other computer. The HP Wireless G Print Server will allow you to print from any computer on your network, not requiring any particular computer to be on.

If you have more than one computer but don't have a wireless network, the best setup is to get a wireless router and set up the wireless network it is easy nowadays. This way you can print from any computer using the HP Wireless G Print Server without turning on a "host" computer.

I have been using the HP Wireless G Print Server for a month now and it works faultlessly. I did have an issue with my HP D4360 printer sending back the ink levels. I uninstalled the print server and then reinstalled it and it works fine now. The directions were unclear on the order of installation of a printer and the print server. Here is the best way to install:

First install the printer on each computer.
Disconnect the printer from all computers.
Install the print server on each computer, following the installation instructions for connecting the printer to the server.

After unpacking the print server I was up and printing within 15 minutes on both printers from both computers in my network. It took me a couple of minutes to get the utility "PS-Utility" to see the print server by disabling the Windows firewall and then discovering that I could add the utility to the exceptions list in order to enable to firewall again. I am able to access all printer specific functions through the drivers as if the printers were connected directly to the computer.

It has been a couple of days and I have had no problems.

This product works great with a Samsung ML-2510 laser printer. even complex graphics, multi-page jobs sail through.

I uninstalled the Netgear software on the PC  you don't need it and it only slows stuff down. The only reason you would want that software is if you can't do the alternate method.

Here's the tip:
1. you have to know the address your router assigned to the ps121. you use your web browser to configure the ps121 to a fixed IP address. you will need to read the manual for the password to log in to the server.
2. you will have to create a TCP/IP printer port, either by adding a new network printer, or by adding a new port to your existing printer.

It took about 5 minutes per pc to set up and run a test print with this method.

For the Vista Laptop that connected via wireless to the WLAN, I used the add printer function, selected network printer, typed in the IP address, and Vista found the correct printer driver and installed it.

I have a printer that wasn't listed on the compatibility chart (Epson R280) so was a little bit worried about it working with this server. It came with software, but I make it a point to try using a device without loading up it's software, using windows only and always have better success, and the DPR-1260 was no exception! Granted, I'm using this as a WIRED server and not wireless (highly recommend this). Just like the quickstart guide says, configure your network card (NIC) or wireless card with an IP address in the same range as the server. Logged into the server and changed the ip to match the range of my existing network (using an old linksys wireless router)and plugged it in to the linksys router. Hook up the printer, log into the server and setup. I did update to the latest firmware, which added compatibility to my printer. The server detected the printer and installed the drivers and it works like a charm! Not ony that, but the scan feature works great too, although it does use the servers interface, which works well too for scan only. My OS is WinXP home edition.

HP 620n Print Server

Product Features
  • With advanced security and industry-leading performance, the HP Jetdirect 620n Fast Ethernet internal print server lets businesses easily
  • Affordably share HP printers with EIO slots across the network and the Internet
  • The HP Jetdirect 620n Fast Ethernet print server supports a broad range of network operating systems and protocols
  • With a modular internal design, the print server slides into the EIO slot of any compatible HP device
I installed this in my HP p3005dn printer. It replaced the old 610n that had died. It's a perfect fit and because DHCP was enabled, it instantly found my network, configured itself and set the printer up on the network. All the computers quickly were able to find the printer (Mac OS X, XP, & Vista machines) and could print to it.

The 620n is a big step ahead of the 610n. It receives jobs faster, prints the jobs faster, and has a sweet web interface! Instead of having to go through the LCD menus or Telnet into the card, I was able to easily use the HP Webjet sofware and get the card set up exactly the way I want. It handles TCP/IP, IPX, Apple Talk, and a bunch of other protocols. My Mac found the printer really fast with this puppy installed.

  • Connects your printer directly to the network by 10/100 wired Ethernet or 54 Mbps Wireless-G (802.11g)
  • Prevents congestion on your PC with other users' print jobs
  • No need to leave a PC on 24/7
I was very very sceptical about the product after reading the user reviews and with prior experience with Linksys Print Servers.

But not this one. This WINS!!! HANDS DOWN!!!

I was afraid that it would conflict with my Wireless D-Link. My fears were erased when it saw the Wireless Network and automatically detected all settings.

Next, the printer was a Canon IP4820 USB printer. It detected that too.

Remember one tip. Install your printer driver on each computer with connected to some bogus port like LPT1. Then do the Print Server Driver install. It changes it accordingly.

I installed the driver on 4 other computers. It works flawlessy!. Not too mention that the Server prints with speed.

So disregard all the previous reviews. Read the Quick Guide Carefully, Setup & Enjoy. Finally Linksys got it RIGHT!

It took maximum 10 mins to install it. WOW

  • Adapter works with Bluetooth technology to wirelessly print photos
  • Send photos from PDA, laptop, or PC to Canon photo printer
  • Maximum transmission speed of approximately 720 kbps
  • Great for printing photos while on the go
  • Quick, efficient, and reliable
I purchased the BU-20 last week and am using it in my home network with a Mac G4 Laptop running OS 10.4.11. I also connect with my desktop G5 running OS 10.4.11.

I plugged into my Canon Pixma 610 printer and within 2-3 minutes was up and running. No software needed. Just plug it in and go. You do not need to be a computer guru to use this device. Just make sure your computer is bluetooth compatible and your printer has a USB port to insert it in. On a Mac you just go to the Bluetooth Icon on top of the screen and scroll down to "Set Up A Bluetooth Device" and with just a few keystrokes you are in sync and start printing from most anywhere in your home. I do not know the max distance but I am printing in from about 30 feet through walls on the same floor. I have not measured the speed difference between hard wired and Blue Tooth but in my case it is very close. I also can print photos from my Motorola RAZR 2 cell phone wirelessly. I am very pleased as it does all I want it to and it is very very small. The newer Canon Printers like the mp610 are equipped to handle the Blue Tooth device. Older models are not.
Five stars from me.

The D-Link DP-301P Print Server is an excellent product. This my second purchase of this product and it is reliable, compact, fast, and easy to set-up, with flexible options, especially in IP addressing. Very useful to get new life out of older printers with the Centronic/parallel only interface adding them to your network untethered to a computer. I have used this product for over two years, completly trouble free on my HP Deskjet printer. I purchased the second device when I was able to get a excellent deal on an older HP Laserjet 6P printer, and it installed flawlessly, and works with both XP and Vista. The documentation is excellent and easy to follow, making the install a simple process. I highly recommend this product.
